A 23 car chain reaction accident occurred Friday afternoon around 1 p.m. on Interstate 5.

Only one person miraculously received minor injuries in this pile up.

The crash took place just south of NE 145th Street.  Officials quickly responded by shutting down all southbound I-5 lanes.

Shortly before the accident, there was heavy rain followed by sun.  According to Washington State Trooper Christina Martin, the reflection of the sun from the wet roads may have blinded drivers. 

Martin also cited inattentive drivers who were following too closely for the conditionis as a reason for the crash. 

Traffic was diverted to 145th Street to exit and reentered on the 145th ramp.  I-5 was reopened about 1:40 p.m.

At one point the backup reached five miles.
