A 15-vehicle pile-up accident happened this morning on Interstate 90 in Bellevue.
A large semi-truck jack knifed after trying to stop in response to slowing down traffic ahead on the freeway traveling westbound, according to Washington State Patrol. The truck hit a logging truck, which pushed it into other vehicles.
It appears that the truck was traveling fast, given the number of people that were hurt. Six people were hurt and a 9-year-old girl was transported to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries. The girl was admitted to the ICU, suffering from brain and neck injuries, and a possible broken pelvis. The other victims suffered from less serious injuries.
The mother and sister of the injured girl were among the other injured victims. They are currently listed in satisfactory condition.
The impact of the truck accident knocked the rear axle off the lodging truck and sent it smashing into other vehicles on the freeway.
"The trailer was going down the road without anything to steer it, other than the cab," Trowbridge said. Troopers later credited the driver of the logging truck for maintaining as much control of his truck as he could.
