Location: I-405, Bellevue
Outcome: At least two lives saved
11 year old Daylon Klennert of Tumwater is being called a hero after he may very well have saved the lives of himself, his mother, and other motorists traveling down I-405 yesterday.
Daylon and his mother Kellie were driving down I-405 on there way to Gold Bar for a Memorial Day camping trip yesterday afternoon. As they they were driving, Daylon looked over to see his mother slumped over having a seizure. When he recognized that something was wrong he reacted immediately.
Daylon grabbed the wheel of the car and mangaged to safely pull the car over to the side of the interstate, took the keys out of the ignition and called 911 on his mom's cell phone. For an 11 year old, seeing his your mother in that state can be terrifying, and Daylon is no exception to that. "“I was really afraid. I was crying really, really badly,” he said. When asked what he told a dispatcher he said, “I said my mom's dying because I didn't know what she was doing.”
Fortunately, his mom was not dying, was diagnosed as having an epilectic seizure and was able to come out of it when paramedics were on the scene and treating her. "“I didn't have any weird feelings or blurred vision or anything. Just, it's like the lights just went out,” Klennert said.
Like any parent, Kellie is certainly proud of the way her son acted and is happy that noone was hurt. Kellie was released from Overlake Hospital but is prohibited from driving.
The two are still planning on going to Gold Bar this weekend, but someone else will have to drive.
From everyone at Davis Law Group, we are happy to hear that noone was hurt in this accident and it shows the importance of taking action, regardless of age.
