$1.1 Million Grant Dedicated to Helmets and Brain Injury Research



Traumatic brain injury should see quality research after a $1.1 million grant was approved.
The National Organizing Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment approved three new research grants, which is another step toward protecting athletes from concussions.

The new studies will develop a protocol for testing football helmets for their safety and investigate hits that cause player’s to experience brain injury. Another study will look at biomechanical factors associated with mild TBI.

At its summer meeting, the board of the National Organizing Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment approved three new research grants totaling nearly $500,000, and reapproved $610,000 initially voted on at its winter meeting.

The topic of brain injury and athletes has been a popular conversation lately. Many athletes are experience brain injury and concussions on the field and it is impairing the lives of those affected.
